Global Results Framework
What is a Global Results Framework and why do we need one?
As a leading global INGO committed to delivering high-impact interventions across critical thematic sectors such as sustainable livelihoods, food security & nutrition, health, education, and WASH, among others, as articulated in Islamic Relief’s new Global Strategy 2023-2033, it is imperative that we articulate and can measure and evidence our transformational impact on the lives of our rightsholders and their communities against a common and robust Global Results Framework (GRF). The GRF:
- Helps to ensure we are all measuring change using common industry best practice indicators.
- Enables us to aggregate this change across all projects, programmes, countries and regions.
- Enables us to demonstrate the changes Islamic Relief’s projects bring globally, which is something we have not been able to do before.
- This is a powerful way of demonstrating the impact of our work to ALL stakeholders.
- In addition to this, by aligning our Global Results Framework to the Sustainable Development Goals, it will also enable us to demonstrate how our projects and programmes globally are helping to support our commitment to achieving these goals.
What sectors are included in the GRF?

How does it work in practice?
- When designing projects, in addition to more local contextual indicators, there needs to be some mandatory indicators taken from Islamic Relief’s Global Results Framework (please note there are some mandatory indicators which must be included – these can be identified in red on the results framework spreadsheet).
- For each sector, at last 1 impact and 1 outcome indicator needs to be from the Global Results Framework.
- The mandatory cross-cutting output indicators also need to be included in each project.
- The Global Results Framework requirements have been built into the unified IRW proposal and reporting templates.
- These indicators need to be included in your MEAL Plans with baseline and targets identified.
- These indicators need to be part of your results monitoring, e.g. in your baselines, Post Distribution Monitoring (PDMs), midline and endline surveys
- The Global Results Framework indicators have been prioritised and easily identified in INDIKIT.
- The Global Results Framework has been incorporated and integrated into the Global Programmes and MEAL System (GPMS): Global Programmes & MEAL System (GPMS)
How to identify the GRF indicators in INDIKIT?
In each sector, there is a filter called Global Results Framework, which will display all of the relevant indicators. Additionally, there is sentence in the 'How to Measure' section of indicator page, indicating that it is GRF indicator. Mandatory indicators, that must be used in all projects with main activites in that sector, are disinguished with an asterick*.
Where can I find more information about the GRF?
There is a dedicated Global Results Framework page on IR Connect.
Welcome to the Global Results Framework Site
The page has a downloadable framework and a PPT which explains the devolpment process of the GRF.
