French: % de femmes qui savent à quel endroit les femmes victimes de violence domestique peuvent obtenir le soutien nécessaire

What is its purpose?

The available data show that a large proportion of women living in low-income countries have at some point in their life experienced domestic violence. Awareness of available support is an important pre-condition for women accessing the assistance they need. This indicator therefore measures the proportion of women that are aware of an informal group, organization or institution that assists women affected by domestic violence.

How to Collect and Analyse the Required Data

Collect the following data by conducting individual interviews with a representative sample of women:

RECOMMENDED SURVEY QUESTIONS (Q) AND POSSIBLE ANSWERS (A)

Q1: Do you know about any informal group, organization or institution that provides assistance to women that experienced physical or sexual violence from their partner?

A1: yes / no

(ask the following question only if the previous answer was YES)

Q2: Can you please tell me what this informal group, organization or institution is?

A2: The answers needs to be developed based on which locally available groups / organizations / institutions provide the required assistance. After you include the pre-defined options, also leave space for “other – specify: ………” option.

(the following question is not mandatory but is recommended)

Q3: What type of support does it provide? (keep probing: “Do you know whether they provide any other assistance? If so, what assistance?”)

A3:

1) psychological support

2) advice and counselling services

3) mediation support

4) legal assistance

5) temporary refuge / accommodation

6) temporary economic assistance

7) other – specify: ________________

To calculate the indicator’s value, divide the number of respondents who know a specific group / organization / institution that helps women affected by domestic violence by the number of interviewed respondents. Multiply the result by 100.

Disaggregate by

Disaggregate the data by the respondent’s location (e.g. (semi-) urban areas, rural areas), age group, wealth, and other factors depending on the local context.
