What is its purpose?

The indicator identifies the extent to which the target population feels prepared to face a specific hazard. Theoretically, the more prepared people are, the less vulnerable they should feel. It is an important indicator of a disaster preparedness intervention’s outcome.

How to Collect and Analyse the Required Data

Result Statement: Increased % of target populations reporting preparedness for [specify hazard]

 

Collect the following data by conducting individual interviews with a representative sample of your target household members:

  

RECOMMENDED SURVEY QUESTION (Q) AND POSSIBLE ANSWERS (A)

Q1: If [specify the hazard] occurs, to what extent do you feel prepared to face it and overcome it safely? 

A1:

1) not at all prepared

2) only little bit prepared

3) somewhat prepared

4) well prepared

5) does not know

     

Calculate the indicator's value by dividing the number of respondents reporting being “somewhat prepared” and “well prepared” by the total number of respondents (exclude those whose answer was "does not know") and multiplying the result by 100.

Disaggregate by

Dissagregate the data by gender, age group or a specific vulnerable group.
